Beauty and Skincare Tips for Wedding Season
Goodbye Summer and hello Autumn! Such a beautiful time of year in Sydney, with the Summer heat behind us, crisp blue skies and oceans, and the flora beginning to change… It’s a favourite time of year for many, including our beautiful brides-to-be, who will soon be getting ready for their big day!
On your Wedding day, lets face it, all eyes will be on you (sorry, hubby), so you’ll want to have a flawless face free of dry skin, blemishes, and other skin impurities. For our delicate facial skin, it is recommended to start prepping months in advance and getting to know your skin will be one of the most important relationships you will have (again, sorry hubby).
Here are our Autumn Beauty and Skincare tips for Wedding Season, not only for our brides, but for anyone looking to improve and nourish their skin after a hot Summer and before a cold, dry Winter!
1. Know and Feed Your Skin
Ensure your daily beauty regimen includes cleansing, exfoliating, toning, and moisturizing morning and night. This can make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin. Although these steps might seem obvious, this is where you don’t want to skimp on the quality of what you are putting on and absorbing into your largest organ, your skin!
*Fun fact: your skin absorbs what you put onto it and travels into your bloodstream within 26 seconds, so choose your products wisely!
Truly understanding your skin is the first step towards a lifetime of skin health, so why not start with a consultation with one of our professional skin therapists. At the Beauty Base, we are armed with highly skilled and knowledgeable skin experts who only use and provide the best products on the market that are no fuss, scientifically proven skin care that truly works!

To enhance the effects of your daily routine, you should also consider a regular facial or peel. A word of warning though…don’t opt to start right before the big day! Consult your Beauty Therapist on the best timing of these treatments.
Another option that might be suitable is our HydraFacial treatment that will hydrate your skin and leave you with that highly coveted, perfect complexion.
2. Smooth skin all over
Although your wedding gown may cover a lot of skin, that’s all the more reason to highlight the visible zones like your neck, chest, back, and shoulders. You can consider the neck and chest an extension to the face—the skin is just as delicate, and requires similar maintenance. When washing, exfoliating, and moisturizing, make sure you’re hitting these spots as well. As for back and shoulders, exfoliate while in the bath or shower, and follow with a gentle cleanser and moisturizing lotion or oil daily. This will keep your exposed skin looking and feeling soft and smooth.
DRY BODY BRUSHING
For the rest of the body, consider incorporating a dry body brush into your daily routine. Dry body brushing is an ancient beauty technique that promotes healthy, glowing skin. It helps stimulate the normal lymph flow and increases blood circulation within the body (see-ya cellulite), aiding the body to detoxify itself, naturally. It will also rid your body of dry, dead skin, helping prevent ingrown hairs, eliminating toxins, and unclogging pores. This process will only take a few minutes and is a beautiful self care routine.
On dry skin before bathing, start on the front of your body with your ankles and work upwards in a circular motion toward your heart. When you move to your back, brush from the neck down to the lower back. To ensure your skin is at its purest, follow with a cool shower to wash away dead skin and don’t forget to seal your beautiful skin with your favorite body oil or moisturiser to keep your body glowing!
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Why not consider treating yourself to Laser Hair Removal? Shaving will be the last thing on your mind in the lead up to the big day, and of course the honeymoon! Ensure you plan ahead and start your sessions early.
At the Beauty Base we use the medical grade FDA & TGA approved Candela GentleMax Pro system, which is the most advanced and effective laser for hair removal in the world. For maximum comfort to our clients, all candela machines provide advanced cooling devices to protect the skin and make your experience near pain free!

3. Prep Your Hands and Feet
If there is one day in your life that you’d want to have beautiful hands, it’s your wedding day. Between statement heels and close-up shots of the wedding band exchange, feet and hands need to look picture perfect.
Prepare the hands and feet by dry brushing, exfoliating with a pumice to soften feet and heels, and of course using a moisturizing lotion throughout the day every day, especially after showering. Avoid soaps that are prone to drying; this will protect against cracking, calluses, and roughness.
And like professional spa treatments caring for your face and body, a professional manicure and pedicure will ensure beautiful healthy skin and nails. Ensure you test out your favourite colours and styles of nails in the months leading up to your wedding day, and book your final manicure and pedicure as close as possible to the big day, to ensure chip-free lacquer.

4. Healthy, clear skin from the inside out
You know what they say: You are what you eat. And when you’re giving the skin—as well as all of your other organs—the nourishment they need, you’ll not only look fabulous, but you’ll feel fabulous, too. Generally, there are a few things to keep in mind that will benefit every inch of your skin. First and absolutely foremost: Drink plenty of filtered water. Water will flush toxins from the body, and given enough time, will aid in the fight against breakouts. Other ways to heal the skin from the inside out is to adopt a real, whole foods diet (fruits, vegetables, whole-grains, and lean meats), and consider taking supplements. Specifically for skin; biotin, omega-3, and vitamin E supplements are all good choices along with a good probiotic and collagen supplement. Just consult your doctor before you start any supplement intake.
Have you also tried our new range from The Beauty Chef? By raising awareness of the link between beauty and gut health, Beauty Chef founder, Carla, has shown beauty really is more than skin deep. She firmly believes it’s an inside-out process. Every product in the range is a blend of Certified Organic, nutrient-dense wholefood ingredients, prebiotics and probiotics, all scientifically-formulated to fortify skin on the inside and outside.
5. Skin Smart
Brides often want to rock a beautiful bronze, but baking in the sun is not worth potential drying out, wrinkles, and age spots. Don’t get me wrong, vitamin D intake is super important but, be smart about it, avoid the direct harmful effects when the UV index is extreme with a hat, organic sunscreen and sun safe clothing.
6. Stress affects your Skin!
Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t let stress take over! Stress only flares up our unwanted inflammatory skin conditions, such as Eczema or Psoriasis, as it weakens the immune system. Not to mention, disrupts your beauty sleep!
Why not try booking in for a regular massage, yoga class or download a meditation app? So many wonderful benefits for your mind and body!
Another great way to de-stress and let your mind and body unwind, is Float Therapy. Our Boutique Medispa in Gregory Hills, now has it’s very own Dream Pod.
Here are the key things to remember:
- Begin a daily beauty regimen that includes exfoliating, cleansing, toning, and moisturizing with nourishing products to feed your skin
- Remember to treat your neck, chest, back, and more—try out body brushing and Laser Hair Removal!
- Moisturize your hands and feet, and get a regular mani/pedi
- You are what you eat— Drink water, eat healthy, take vitamins!
- Practice sun safety or try out a fake tan
- Stick to the routine and keep stress levels low, and you’ll have a wedding glow!
Lastly, if you do find yourself with a rouge blemish or other skin emergency the day of: Don’t Panic. Try not to irritate it further by picking or squeezing. If you end up with blemishes on your face or body, use a blemish cream and let your makeup artist do the rest.
Preparing the skin for your wedding day might seem like a daunting task, but once you get into a skin-saving routine, your glow will make that routine hard to break— long after the vows are exchanged!
